What is a bernedoodle?

If you are looking for a smart and loyal dog that will be your companion for life, then look no further! The Bernedoodle is a companion dog, through and through, for families of all shapes and sizes. Known as the Bernese Mountain Poo, this breed is a combination of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. Bernedoodles combine the best of both parent breeds: the intelligence and low shedding coat of the Poodle and the laid-back, loyal nature of the Bernese.

What many do not realize, is the variety of sizes and colors available in the bernedoodle. Since poodles come in three sizes (miniature/toy, medium, and standard) the bernedoodles come in three sizes as well. They range from 10 - 50 pounds in size. And, depending on the coloring of their parents, bernedoodles range in color markings as well. Bernedoodles of NC specializes in breeding tri-color mini (10 - 20 lbs) and medium (20 - 35 lbs) Bernedoodles. The tri-color markings give each puppy such a unique look with some even having mural patches on their legs (as with our precious Bella pictured below)!

Pedigree - F1, F1b, F2 and multi-gen puppies explained

There are several different generations of Bernedoodles, as with any designer dog breed. An F1 Bernedoodle is a 50/50 mix purebred Bernese Mountain Dog and purebred Poodle. An F1b Bernedoodle is a 25/75 mix of purebred Bernese Mountain Dog and an F1 Bernedoodle. For many families, this is a sought after generation of the designer breed as the 75% genetic make up of the poodle translating to a nearly non-shedding, yet fluffy, cuddly pooch! An F2 Bernedoodle, sometimes referred to a multi-gen variety is a 50/50 mix of two F1 Bernedoodles. With F2 Bernedoodles, the reliability of the coloring and size of the puppies is more predictable with classic loose wavy coats that are the closest things to a real live teddy bear.

With all the variety available from sizes, colors, and even personalities, there truly is a Bernedoodle for every person.
